cover The Doula Advantage: Your Complete Guide to Having an Empowered and Positive Birth with the Help of a Professional Childbirth Assistant

by Rachel Gurevich

The author interviewed more than 235 women and birth professionals for this book. Ms. Gurevich validates the published research on why doulas can decrease pain medication; reduce caesarians and other invasive procedures during labor. This is a comprehensive look on why laboring women and their partners and their babies benefit so greatly from having a labor doula.
Ina May's Guide to Childbirth

by Ina May Gaskin

This is one of the most inspirational books about birth in our times. Ina May Gaskin is a midwife who founded a spiritual community over 30 years ago. She and her partners have attended over 2,000 births and have maintained a less than 2% caesarian section rate. She has quite an unassuming style while delivering life changing ideas. I whole-heartedly recommend this book to all pregnant women.
The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth

by Henci Goer

Ms. Goer has given us a great impartial gift by analyzing research on common obstetric practices that are used today. Through this research we learn how much evidenced-based medical practices are actually ignored by the medical community. She has sound recommendations that can influence the type of labor and birth you have. This is a great resource for putting yourself on an even-keel with your health care provider.
Hypnosis for a Joyful Pregnancy & Pain-Free Labor & Delivery

by Winifred Conkling & Nancy Barwich

This is a light and easy introduction to the principles of hypnosis as applied to pregnancy, labor & breastfeeding. A helpful resource for understanding more about how hypnosis can be used to enhance your labor and birth.
Bountiful, Beautiful, & Blissful: Experience the Natural Power of Pregnancy & Birth with Kundalini Yoga & Meditation

by Gurmukh Khalsa

A wonderful resource for combining the power of yoga with pregnancy & birth. Gurmukh writes like a compassionate wise old friend who can give you little nuggets of truth in a gentle, loving way. Even if you've never practiced yoga before your pregnancy, this book invites you to use a yoga practice to focus on your relationship with your partner and your baby within.
